Our Beginning

Community Kitchen Co-operative Kitchener-Waterloo (CKCKW) was incorporated in 2016 as a non-profit, co-operative organization with the goal to build a community of support and to generate start-up revenue for the project.

We hosted our first dinner on Saturday, December 10th, 2017 with over 200 guests in the Parish Hall of St John the Evangelist Anglican Church in Kitchener.

Since then, Community Kitchen Co-op has coordinated numerous community dinners, cooking demonstrations/workshops and fundraisers at various community locations. We have received funding from the Region of Waterloo, the cities of Kitchener and Waterloo, as well as grants from the Innoweave Foundation and the Anglican Foundation.

OUR GOALS

The CKCKW aims to provide supports and resources to potential food producers, including, but not limited to, marginalized individuals, those living on limited incomes, and newcomers to Canada.

Our goals:

  • facilitate cooking workshops and demonstrations to share skills and cultural food practices;

  • coordinate community meals to build social inclusion and intercultural understanding; and;

  • generate wholesale food production using local ingredients to build skills and enhance organizational sustainability.

  • coordinate food-based projects and opportunities that support community building.

  • In the future are looking to set-up:

    • an affordable, kitchen cooperative program that will make it possible for new entrepreneurs to get their businesses off the ground;

    • enhance skills and provide entrepreneurial mentorship;

    • offer access to affordable, licensed commercial kitchens to food producers;

We hope to continue to expand our outreach programming in the near future. Interested in learning more? Click here
